Hi All,

I'm an old hand at rock and roll. This is my first stab at purely digital music, so I'm dying for some feedback, since I'm self-taught and basically just winging it (just like the last twenty years on the guitar).

Inspired by Dan the Automator (Gorillaz), Tricky, etc.

Guff on!

I'm really liking this!

I think it's a little dry, could use a little more reverb.

Really like the synth pads. All the little bleeps are cool. Mix balance sounds nice. Love the break down. Did you record an upright bass? Like the fact that I can hear a little fret rattle.

You have a knack for this, song structure is tight. I really liked it alot! Keep posting.

yeah this is very nice...love the double bass...i take it its a loop if not Id love to know what it is, i need some good double bass for a D&B track..

Id be careful with the pads, there's lots of little things going on and they can muddy things up at parts, I agree with K regarding more reverb, and a fade out at the end wouldnt go amiss ;)

It actually reminds me of some early MoWax stuff..looks like you're a natural :)

Wow, honestly didn't expect that. Been playing guitar 20 years and maybe been called a natural once.

As for it being dry, yeah, it is. I couldn't make it sound warmer so I just embraced it and went over the top with that slickness.

The upright bass is just upright 1 from the NNXT sampler, Reason 4.

The kick was from Smokers Relight, I then dropped the pitch and tone. Played with it for almost an hour. In fact, all the drums are Smokers Relight.

I also had a lame T-Rex patch under a lot of it (you can hear at the start of the song).

I'm reading up on rewiring into REAPER, so I'll hopefully be able to experiment with more natural EQ and reverb. Dan the Automator is my hero, so... I like that smooth analog sound.

I'll re-post it once I run it through Vintage Warmer and I'll try some reverb, I couldn't put my finger on it but I think that would sound good. Do you guys recommend putting reverb on the whole track? I worry that might exacerbate the pads getting out of control.

I'm watching Tango and Cash right now but I'll give you the number of that kick drum patch later. I also did medium-then-hard automation on the kick to emulate a real drummer on a single kick. I've played with a lot of real drummers and they always hit that first hit a little lighter unless they have two kick pedals.

But no, that's not a loop. I did all the drums in Redrum. Can't wait to figure out that groove module, whatever it's called.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm looking forward to becoming an active member in this community.
