I was thinking of an idea (don't know if its already been thought of). The idea is to have a website that has a multitrack recording program. let me explain. it would be a 4 to 8 track online program where a guy in LA could record a guitar track and his friend in Ohio could record the bass part and his friend in Nancy, France (i just had a geo test on france ;)) could record the vocal and drums. And this would be done all at the same time or at different times with a message board or chat program to talk to each other. What do u think? How would i do it. and if its already been done, where can i go to see this? (i think i read it something like this in a recording magazine but i didnt make much sense.) thanks

This type of stuff has been done, and is done. But you need major dedicated bandwidth and it's way expensive to implement in a usable way. At the moment anyway, in the future I think this will happen. I read somewhere Page did the guitar stuff on that wretched remake of Kashmir by Puff Daddy prison-destined, oceans apart. I don't know the particuliars, but I suspect some major sync apparatus on both ends of the wire. Not real time performing, but real time collaboration/listen back at best.

Check this out in the interim though,

Never tried it.
