i bought a disc full of audio progs on ebay months ago, i had a look at the disc last nite and pro tools le 6.4 is one, it loaded up ok but when i try to open it, it stops halfway and a msg comes up "no hardware connected" anyone know what hardware its referring to...

man who ever the c u n t was that left me neg rep and the comment

"Get a job so you can afford to buy legit software"

have some back bone and at least sign the fucking thing

and for your info i have bought lots of legit software that was on that dics

they include

reason 3.0
reason drum kit 2 refill (and a bunch of other refills)
cubase sx3
sony soundforge 8
sony acid pro 6

and i just bought sony sound forge 9 (which was not on that disc)

i tried all of these from the disc and treated that disc as a demo

i was just asking a simple question, if it turns out that i like the software i will buy it

so fuck you man, dont be so quick to jump to conclusions

It's asking for the Digi hardware. You can download the limited one for free and it doesn't care about hardware.

cheers man..

the program is looking for the MBox interface. ur gonna need to get ur hands on one i think.

the thing is i dont want to record into the software, i recored on my mixer and then send my track into my software

if our website weren't down right now, I'd give you a link explaining how LE works....

but you need some hardware of some sort to use Pro Tools. Think of it like a dongle. You don't necessarily need just an Mbox there are several other options out there...but to use the software you need to buy the hardware.

seems like a bit of a scam but ive heard its the business so im sure its worth it

if you can at some stage pass on that link id appreicate it...

Yeah, Digidesign requires you to have it's hardware to run it's software. Some people don't mind, others think they should be able to run Pro Tools on any interface. Pro Tools HD/TDM requires you to have the HD/TDM systems. Pro Tools LE requires you to have any of the compatible hardwares, like 001/002/003R/Mbox 1/2. M-Powered requires compatible M-Audio hardware.

no, it's not a scam because they've been like that for years and everyone should know how they work by now.

actually if you really get down to it, Digi is a hardware company that happens to give free software with their units. You just have to use that software with their hardware. Of course, you can use their hardware now with most programs out there.

This is the link I was talking about, but we're having server issues (as usual):

Actuallyu, I used to think that they give their software away with their hardware, but it's not true. If it were, they wouldn't charge you $75 to upgrade from 6.x to 7.

That said, it is a well-known package deal. You want PT, buy their hardware.

If you have cubase sx3 already I'm not sure if you'll get much benefit from using Pro Tools 6.4 for anything. It's basically just a similar DAW. It works well if you have the hardware but doesn't really do anything that Cubase doesn't. If you already have VST plugins Pro Tools won't be able to run them without a wrapper so it may be even less functional. Unless you have a bunch of RTAS plugins that you don't have in VST.
