Is there any way to have the capability of recording with more than just two microphones on Mbox? Is there any kind of expansion thing you can buy or anything that will give you more microphone inputs? I have a Mackie 1604 mixer. Would it be possible to connect that to the M-Box somehow and use the microphone inputs on the mixer?

The Mbox 2 allows up 2 analog ins and 2 S/PDIF in- so sorta, yes. You'd need a preamp with S/PDIF outputs or a preamp and a separate S/PDIF convertor to make use of the extra 2 inputs.

Doesn't work with the original mbox, though. :(

Since he already has a mixer, he's set with preamps. He just needs a S/PDIF converter.
I would like to know where you can find one of these, as my S/PDIF ports are being wasted. :P

Well, I have Mbox 1, so I guess that wouldn't work anyway.

Chris-
Are the new Mbox 2's allowing 4 simultaneous inputs of all across USB 1.1 (both S/PDIF and Analog??) I wasn't aware of that.

Yup.

I had a Tascam US-428 that allowed 6 streams of i/o (4 in / 2 out) on USB 1. I think there are a few devices that allow two more streams on USB 1, but Digi apparentlly doesn't like to push things to their limits: better safe than sorry.

Part of why people are so ticked by Digi's hardware at times- theoretically, the Mbox 1 *could* do 24/96 with its whoppin' 2 I/O (the M-audio duo does).... but....no.

Take care,
Chris
