Pro Tools: Realtime bounce only right?

Ok, I'm in a studio next week and my client wants a load of stuff loaded into Pro Tools (I think 6.X, not 7 yet), cleaned up, compressed and then bounced out simply as stereo wav files.

Please confirm this for me - Pro Tools will only bounce out in realtime right? I'm used to using Cubase/Nuendo and Sadie, both of which manage to bounce in non-realtime (with plug-ins), but for some reason the 'industry standard' can't. Please correct me if I'm wrong because time is an issue. If I can bounce in non-realtime in PT then please tell me!

Thanks,

Agent.

correct, offline bounce something we've been pushing for a lot more lately.

I think a lot of the reason it was originally real time bounce is because of how many studios used outboard gear with their setup

Oddly enough, you *used* to be able to do a non-realtime bounce in PT. That was quite a while ago though.

However, an argument can be made that real time bounce is actually faster than non-realtime. The idea being that when you listen to a real time bounce being made, you are checking the bounce at the same time. With a faster than realtime bounce you have to wait for the bounce, and only then can you check it. So it actually takes longer.

You *do* check your bounces don't you?

Thanks guys. I thought so! I have a lot of material to deal with and I just thought if there was a quicker way of doing it, but I guess not! I guess the client will have to wait... :)

SonicAlbert - Yes, before I give anything to a client I always check it! Most of the time when I've bounced to wav, it's been for interactive or computer games, which I'm generally going to be editing anyway. So any probs that may have occurred in the bounce would be found.

Do you really believe that or are you just making a point?

The real-time bounce has always been a pain in my PT experience. I listen to the product during mix and when I'm ready to bounce, I want the file right then. I don't want to sit for 15 minutes and listen to the playback again.

Is having a RT bounce a 100% guarentee that the file has zero problems? That seems unlikely. Nothing is 100% in digital....
