We all love the idea of having our own home studio and make high cuality recordings. And I have always thought that protool was the perfect solution. So I visit ther website and order a free DVD to have a closer look to their digi001. The software was incredible, it gives you total control of the audio, but the way they talk about it, was more like "any one can make a profecional recording even a dumb ass like you!" And I know recording in an art and that is very complicated. I am looking for something profecional.
-Is pro tool LE realy profecional, or just a nice toy?

Thanks!

Just so you know. I ordered that dvd from them too thinking it was for the digi-001 and it turns out that it was the TDM system that they are showing. If your like me it wasnt till the second time I watched it that I realized that.
There was a section in there about beatmapping using "Beat Detective." Well I though that you could get that for the cheaper digi-001 system...well you cant.

Protools LE will normally be used for multitrack audio editing and mixing. The editing features are almost equal to the big system, the mixing features of course not because it's CPU hosted instead of hardware. But we are comparing it to other softs than use the same principle (CPU)

I have thought many times of going to the other brands, but personally never got convinced why I should leave Digi. I use it professionally almost everyday, and it had never let me down. It has a very good reputation, and does attrack costumers. Like a read the other day : Ever seen a major studio advertising that they use cubase for HD-recording? It's 99% Protools

So yes it is professional, and yes there are different options that are equal as good (or bad)

well i dunno how "professional" it is considering ur limited to like 8 or 24 tracks of audio...which is ridiculous considering all other top native system software offers unlimited audio tracks(depends on how powerful ur computer is)

That would be something like 24-32 tracks average?

wit computers now a day i wouldn't be surprised if thats someones track count recording @ 24/96(something else PT lacks....96khz)

Cuz i've gotten 20 tracks wit plug ins @ 24/44.1 and my computer is hardly the "fastest" 900mhz athlon wit 768 meg or ram...Native computers now can prolly run more tracks then the OLD PT TDM system

I think the real "pro" you'll find in other gear, such as mics and preamps and monitors.
I think Protools LE is a tool that allows without a problem to make a great recording, it won't be the bottleneck in anyone's setup.

(Usually the bottleneck are always the songs you're recording :-)

Come on, don't get me started about the total bull about 96K...oh no......damn...I have invested in 40 tracks Tascam DA88/38....I should have bought Cubasis....damn...no I can't get any professional recordings....damn...trough away my Groove Tubes, M3000, Solitaire Console, while all i had to get was VST and 96K.

I'm doomed. I knew it didn't had anything to do with talent and ears, you have to get 96 K to be pro.

:D Remember Teacher, it's not the trackcount or specs that make something professional, it's the guy using it.

Nevermind the previous post...I'm a little drunk

Cheers :D

Everyone here should keep this in mind at all times.

Yes i think we(should) know that skill is the most important gear in anything u do. But really how would that look if u were doing a session and then u told them "i don't have enuff tracks to record u" i think thats pretty lame for that u mine as well record on a 24 track 2" and at least get the benefit of that "analog magic". i'm just giving him the advantages of a Native system cuz 96khz or 88.2khz IS going to be the new default that's y the new PT HD system goes all the way to 192 so it can last that 2-3 years before they make it obsolete and make u pay anutha 10-20 gees on the new system
