i was just wondering.

i bought my first copy of protools the other day.

i wanna use it to record and produce my first master.

i dont know squat a bout PC recording, and most certainly protools, at least as far as how to operate it.
does anyone know of a good tutorial on protools for beginners or anything?

I don't think anything about Pro Tools is for beginners. Why would you go out and spend a load of cash for something you know absolutely nothing about? Kind of like deciding on marriage and kids before you're old enough to know you like girls.

the 434 page pdf manual is pretty interesting. It spells it out really easy.

Protools is a very easy program to do audio with. I like it

pro tools is expensive hardware for a mac setup...anything else is just marketing hype.

You don't need to purchase anything to get a good look at ProTools, you can simply download PT Free. Granted, this version is buggy and comes with plenty of sound distortion issues, so I would says that it is priced fairly. Sound distortion can be minimized with a few tricks, but it is a great intro to PT.

PTLE, which is Pro Tool Light, also comes free with the Digi 001. And it probably should, since that is the only piece of hardware it will work with. Digidesign has a propietary i/o called Direct i/o and unless the software supports Direct i/o, it is not usable with Digidesign hardware. Logic Audio is the only other software that supports Direct i/o, as far as I know. the Digi 001 can be used with other audio programs, but only 2 chanels. This is because a WDM driver for 2 channels comes with the Digi 001. It is not much, but at least it is something.

So, what did you buy? Did you buy a full ProTools 5.1 version that is for Digidesign's highend TDM systems? If so, you may need to spend another $10,000 to get the proper hardware to run with your software.

Perhaps, you purchased an upgrade for PTLE (version 5.1) which costs about $50. It is usable with an Audiomedia card. This upgrade was actually meant for PTLE users who had the old version of 5.0.1 and the upgrade was not free because their system was over 6 months old.

Their is one more option, you could have bought the a CD version of PT Free for $9.99 + shipping. I did this because my modem was so slow. Anyway, can you specify which Pro Tools you bought?

It IS great for beginners.. I KNOW! (personal experience)

I just Got into Tools LE, after years of hating DAW, even in recent times, as much as 2 weeks ago, I was talking bad about DAW...claiming I would NEVER use it... What I needed was to sit down at the store and have someone show me what it's all about... I was sold!!!!.. I bought it that day....(last friday..)....

Having never used DAW, I was multitracking and performing editing and using plug-ins, pretty much within the first 2 hours.....
ooh and also programming automation.... 3 days later, im almost finished my first song....

Joe.....

It's Highly based on common knowledge..... Very user friendly

Protools videos...

I would never go so far as to say its marketing hype to sell hardware. Thier hardware system DOES run VERY smoothly, to the point of making you jealous as hell, but the program itself is very mature and does audio very well. I;d say this person bought the Digi with protools LE. Its also pretty easy to use. I'd say its easier than Sonar that I've been using, and just as easy, maybe easier, than cakewalk.
There are some videos out for protools, sweetwater has them, I'd check those out if I were you.
