Pro tools 8 help!!!

Alright guys...this is the deal.

I previously had Line 6 Guitar Port but lost the software and updated to windows 7. All the line6 software i download is really confusing...

So...i went out and bought PRO TOOLS 8.

HOW THE HECK DO I USE IT!?

The manual is GARBAGE for any sort of help.

How do I get my guitar working so I can actually hear the sound being amplified THROUGH pro tool's software?

I'm a super NOOB with pro tools.

Can anyone provide step by step procedures and instructions?

Also, I have NO IDEA how to set up for recording.

I hope someone knowledgable actually gets this thread!!!!!

You actually need to be in record mood to be able to hear what your doing at the time and have the monitors routed correctly as well. hope this helps. I know that being a super noob is heck with a big learning curve especially with pro tools but in the end you'll look back on all of this and smile.

I have the same setup but I'm drunk.





Do you hear any audio out of your speakers while not is protools? Open a song in media player or something. Nothing? Make sure the M-Audio drivers are installed. Hear anything? On the back of the M-Audio device are your outputs... they are in groups of two unless you're using surround speakers. Make sure your left speaker is plugged into output 1 and make sure your right speaker is plugged into output 2. That may be backwards, can't remember. Open the mixer software that comes with the M-Audio device. There you can select which outputs the device uses. Select stereo 1-2. Make sure you can hear your music now. Now in protools 8 make sure any new audio track you create outputs are routed to stereo 1-2 (should be default). This whole set up lets you have up to 6 (or is it 8, im not at my studio) stereo monitors to hear your music out of. Just make sure the outputs you select have speakers plugged into them. Hope this helped and wasn't a drunk mess. Take your time with it, man. I had some problems getting mine up and running but it really is a great setup.
