Pro Studio vs. Home Studio

just to put in some thoughts...

some local studios around here recorded my friend's band (just a few hours)- and it sounded like crap to me (of course, the band still liked it). they paid a couple hundred for it.

i had them come to my cat-piss smelly basement for half a day - just to show them how they wasted their money - and they were pissed no doubt...since I had WAY less expensive gear, but actually took the time to make it all sound halfway decent.

anyway, I would find a good studio - get to know the guy doing your shit, and make sure he likes your music, so he takes the time to do a good job.

they told me that at the "pro studio," the dude spent 30 min. just moving faders around. I spent 2 weeks mixing/mastering it as best I could. haha.

that's just a quick story. i think you shouldn't buy all this gear unless you want to USE it for years to come. if you just want a cd, find a good studio, and lay it down there.
