Djembes Rock
I live in the Seattle area and am looking for a shop that sells and/or rents highend mics and preamps. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Terry

Yeah, most studios will let you use them all you want. You just can’t leave the building with them.

RawDepth,

Thought of that, but the idea is to try one at home with my own humble rig to see if my stuff is good enough to notice the higher quality.

Terry

So take your rig to the studio. If you are buying a block of time, they may even help with your experiments. A buddy of mine once took his Roland VS1800 (or whatever it was) portable recorder to a local pro studio and recorded right along side of their gear. They didn’t mind as long as he was paying for the hours used. Hell, they even hooked it up for him!

Call one and ask. You may be able to try out six or eight high end mics for cheaper than renting them outright or buying them.

Just a thought.

Ask for Brian.

I tried to pick up some rental gear here in Atlanta Ga but after digging through the net and talking to other musicians I came up short. Consider yourself lucky .......

Watch out for that cocksucker... he stiched me up for $4,000+ with his last company "Everything Audio" out of LA out of sheer negligence. They bought a piece of gear from us then tried to not pay for it... when they went to ship it back they didn't pack it right, it got trashed in transit and the cocksucker didn't insure the shipment.

Watch your back around him... if he has a chance to fuck you over he'll do it in a NY minute with no remorse.

Fletcher,

Thanks for the headsup. Integrity is of prime importance to me! Btw, I spoke with Trish at your shop today and she sent me out a Toft ATC-2 3rd day UPS. It's going to be fun weekend!

Regards,
Terry

Wow, Fletcher, gotta admit this caught me offguard. Just shows you what *I* know about the biz :(

What about Garth there?

I've had no dealings with Garth... basically, anyone who would give Cornhole the time of day is dead to me.

Part of me wishes I hadn't read this thread.

Long + McQuade in Canada screwed me over one too many times. So I went looking around this summer to find a new audio dealer. PPA was the only one in my price range at the time that could be bothered answering my questions. (* see footnote)

Fletcher, how long ago did this happen? Was B.C. maybe just a kid at the time? I mean, it's one thing if it was 10 years ago; it's different if he was a 16 year old clerk when he screwed up.

Enquiring minds want to know...

No. He owned the shop. It was called "Everything Audio" in Los Angeles. I'm not the only one this piece of shit fucked over... why do you think he's hiding in Seattle?

He was a grown man who made a free and clear decision not to properly take care of business. If you're into 'financial sodomy'... he's your man... if you'd prefer not to get fucked over... find a different shop.

Isn't there a "GC Pro" in Seattle? I would rather deal with Guitar Center than that piece of shit. In fact, I'd rather go into plumbing full time than deal with that piece of shit.

I don't know about you, but to me $4,000 is a lot of money.

Not even a fucking apology.
