Pro Audio 9 effects trouble

Ok, recently I installed Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 for friend of mine and everything seemed to go fine, except when it came time to add effects to the audio, I highlighted the audio clicked edit went to audio effects and then the effects menu's and clicked on an effect nothing happened. It didn't even bring up the effect screen. I personally have Pro Audio 9 and have had no problems adding effects. If you have any input on what might be wrong or a possible soultion it would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to make sure he has DirectX installed on his system. Or upgrade to a newer version of DirectX (but not ver. 8 I'm told).
