Pro Audio 9 and Alesis DM5

I recently hooked up an Alesis DM5 to my computer, but Cakewalk dosen't recognize it.
The drum sounds I get are only from my lame internal sound card.
Do I need to add the DM5 to one of my ports....if so HOW?
The MIDI cables are hooked up correctly, but I just can't seem to activate the sounds from the DM5.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
you must choose the midi interface that your dm5 is hooked up to.if you have your user manual check out chptr 3-18.if not go into options-midi devices and check which input and output ports are highlighted.unless the midi interface your dm5 is hooked up to is highlighted you won't be able to get anything into your puter from your drum machine.hope this helps.
 
Also mae sure that the DM-5 is set to the correct channel as the cakewalk channel you are using.

Example:

DM- ch 10
Cakewalk Ch 10
