I tried posting this previously but only got crickets until I removed the song. I'll try it again. I'm a guitar player who tried to do a whole song alone. What a daunting task. Anyway, any suggestions on levels, eq, compression, etc. would be greatly appreciated. No drummer so I used a drum machine. Vocals? Just read a Psalm over the music cuz me no singey well. Thanks for your constructive criticism...heck, I'll even take destructive criticism if I can learn something from you! :)

people mostly aren't gonna do a lot of listening to someone who has 3 posts. If you really want feedback you need to do some feedback in the clinic for other's music first.
Do that and you'll get a lot of listens.
I took a quick listen ...... sounded ok although the spoken word thing isn't something I can listen to for long.
Also I didn't hear much in the way of guitar there.

Hey Lt.,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. That makes total sense about the posts/feedback process. I'll try to spend a little more time in here and put my 2 cents in where I can. I don't like the vocals either. I think I'll yank them out and post the song without them because I'm more interested in the sound/mix of the music. I wonder if I added so many dang effects that the guitar doesn't sound like a guitar anymore. It kicks in more after the second verse, but with the vocals, I know, it's hard to get that far. Thanks again!

I'd make a point of listening if you post just the music.
And I ( and others) would be quite curious about whatever processing you did to the guitar to make it sound like that.

Here is the song without any vocals.

Sounded OK. I liked the instrumentation. The keyboard part was cool.

I agree the spoke word part got to be a little too much.

Guitar doubling was good. I got a little too much phasiness from it though.

Bass is sitting at a good level.

The canned drums weren't horrible. the hats were a little buried.

the part that was sung was a little soft. The autotune stuff is starting to sound "old" to me now. not sure about others.

TripleM,

Thanks for your time...excellent analysis! Moving forward, I think I am going to start from scratch with the vocals. I need to have a vocal part that enhances the song...not detract from it. Also, once I get a few songs close, I may bring in a buddy to lay down live drum tracks. With the phasiness, right now I have the guitars panned at 9 and 3 oclock. I like the effect, but I think if I automate the pan to be spread less often, it might be cooler. Thanks again!

Hey Lt.,

That rhythm track should be up now. I messed up. The guitars are all processed in garageband. I basically ran my ibanez with emg pu's thru an m-audio interface right into my mac. Clean guitar uses their jazz amp simulation and dirt uses the american lead sim. Both clean and dirt are doubled and panned. Plus comp, flange, eq, chorus, reverb, delay...well, I guess I threw everything but the kitchen sink at it. Thanks for taking the time to listen! :)
