My bet is you've listened to neither a RNP nor a Presonus MP20. But thanks for your valuable input anyway.

The MP20 is what it is. It has gotten the nod from a lot of pro engineers. Others weren't as impressed with it as others.

More information and specs, along with a review can be found here:

A review from ProAudioReview is here:

http://www.proaudioreview.com/par/jan01/PRESONUS-MP20-web.shtml

Here is a users review site where the MP20 rated an 8.2 which falls between a rating of "Great" and "Almost Perfect"

http://www.crmav.com/recording/61/mp20_preamp.shtml

The MP20 is TWO (2) channels of Class-A Discreet preamp. It is the same electronics that the acclaimed M80 is based upon.

For your own personal enlightenment Mr. Amund, I'm sure the RNP is a nice unit. I wouldn't mind giving one a listen. Harvey and Alex Gerst like it, and those are two opinions I put a lot of stock in. But I'm not selling this pre in order to buy one. I'm selling it because I don't need the channels, but I do need the money. I've already got 4 channels of world class Sytek in the MPX-4Aii, 4 tube channels of Peavey VMP-2, and 12 channels of pretty dang good preamp in the Akai DPS24.

Thanks again for your valuable input. ;)

I have tried the MP20 several times on various source, didn`t care for it at all, the RNP I suggested because it`s the best deal on this side of $1000, I of course haven`t tried it, but I trust Fletcher!

Amund,

I respect your opinion on the MP20 since it's based on experience. I know some like it and some don't.

I would have to listen to the RNP before I would feel comfortable saying it is the best thing under a grand. There is some pretty good sounding stuff that can be had for under a grand such as the four channel Sytek.

Yo' Mr Zeke the Deke, in what capacity will you be using your MP20? Vocs? Gits? Does the MP20 provide clean and transparent
operation or does it generate any "coloring" to signal?
I've been reading tons of opinions and advice on the various pre's
and would like to know more 'bout from an actual owner!
Thx!

I used a pair of SM81s going into MP20s on the vibes, and I also used an MP20 with the C3000 used on the bass, in the live recording I posted here recently. I had the IDSS controls turned fully off. I thought the recording sounded good - no colouration, and totally transparent.

Thx Chill-Wil !!!
Another question.
When running the C3000 thru it, were you mic'ing the amp the bass played thru it or were U mic'ing an acoustic bass?
