Now I can buy a used firestudio for 550 (a damn good deal) or the MOTU 8pre. Well, I also was looking at the saffire pro 10 io, I just picked the motu from the apparent praise and problems I have heard about the saffire.
What I would like to do eventually though (and if possible) is run 8 tracks of drums to analog. My understanding is that both units can do standalone, but the motu has 2 outs whereas the firestudio has...8? So would I not be able to do this with the motu?
I would be getting a terrific price on the presonus, but I am heavily debating because of the above issue and also the defective firestudio project I bought a while ago and returned causing a general repulsion to presonus as a whole.
