Presonus Firestation

Anyone familair with these? How do they work?

I am concerned about the speed of Firewire.

Is it gonna choke on me if I am trying to record 8 tracks at once?

Any help would be appreciated!

Never used one myself.
The Firestation uses the mLan protocol over the firewire connection and from what I've heard it can be a real pain in the ass to get the unit to work properly. I guess it hasn't been discontinued for no reason.

Firewire in itself is plenty fast. 400mbit. Enough for dozens of simultaneous tracks. Don't worry about it.

8 tracks with F-station

I've used my firestation with cubase and never had a bandwidth issue, even when using multiple firewire devices. Bear in mind, however, that to record 8 simultanious tracks you must use software that takes advantage of ASIO drivers. WDM drivers will only give you two.
