Presonus Firepod question

Does anyone know how to run an external effects unit, like a compressor to this unit. I know there is not a dedicated effects loop, but can i use the channel outs on each of the 8 channels. If not, what are these outputs for anyways?

The first 2 channels have inserts for external effects.

The analog outs are there as an alternative to the firewire connection. They just give you the flexibility of using the presonus preamps and bypassing the a/d convertors

Just to clarify, the Firepod will record 10 seperate tracks simultaneously into Cubase? What other software can I use and still be able to record simultaneous tracks into?
 
Just about all the current software packages out there will let you record multiple tracks even the free ones.

The 10 simultaneous tracks from the firepod include the 2 via s/pdif, so it's only 8 analog inputs
