Hi, I just got the Presonus Firepod to record my acoustic drum set with 7 mics. I want to record each track seperately simoultaneously so I can EQ them and change each one of their sound. The firepod has 8 mic xlr inputs and I have 7 mics so each mic goes into one but one is empty. when I try to record with any software I cannot record all the tracks at the same time, only 1 track. i have tried magix music maker, samplitude, fl studio, cubase, and all this software and I can't record multiple tracks at the same time. xD either i don't know how to use it or something. also, is this problem caused by my soundcard? Oh yeah and I have 8 inputs on my firepod right. well when I'm in any software program and go to options for the input it only displays firepod blah blah 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8. why is it not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? I want to record all 7 tracks at once and EQ them xD. Thanks, help appreciated!

Try using mono tracks, for starters. Are you using the ASIO driver?

Hi and Welcome. Are you running XP, Vista, Mac OS? Anyway...I use two Firepods to record 16 channels using Cubase, so it can be done.

First make sure that you have the updated driver installed from www.presonus.com. Turn on your firepod. Open up cubase. Go to devices and select the firepod driver. Then go to VST inputs and activate all 8 inputs. In your project window, add 8 mono tracks. This can be done by right clicking or from the menu. (sorry for being so vague, I'm not at my DAW right now...I'm at work) You should now see 8 tracks in your project window. Click on the 1st track (it should be highlighted). Select input 1 on the left hand side of your screen. Go to the next track and select input 2. Go to the next track and select input 3. So on and so forth.

Oh yeah, you should disable your soundcard in Windows. The Firepod is now your soundcard.

I hope this helps. Once I get home I will reply back with a more detailed answer.

go to device setup and change your audio device to presonus firepod if you havent done so already. then goto vst connections, click on the inputs tab. theres normally a stereo track already setup, this is the track your probably hearing. delete this so there are none.

then add your seven tracks each being mono, not stereo.once this is done add seven audio tracks into cubase (again mono). do this by right hand clicking and add track....

then final step is to click on a track and to the left of the screen there is a section where it says in, and out. if its your first track you want this to be assigned to your first mic/preamp, so click on in and select the first mono input that is displayed (there should be seven, due to you creating seven in vst connections) do this for everyother track.

now this might seem a bit of a pain for each time you create a new song, so, save it as a template for future proects. click on file and save as template

damm and now i have just seen that dastrick has already answered your question lol oh well

also if you are still having problems with your firepod than try the asioforall driver (rather than supplied presonus one) i have read countless stuff on the net where this has fixed maor problems

Alright, thanks for all the help first of all. I think the problem was that I was using a laptop and wasn't using my computer, because I didn't have a really long firewire cable, but it just came in today (33 feet) and I will hook it up to my computer and see how things, go. Appreciate the help!

Shouldn't make the blindest bit of difference, except if you have compatibility issues. Why would a laptop make much difference?

You said...

"it only displays firepod blah blah 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8"

...which shows the firepod is being detected correctly, however you are probably looking at stereo tracks in the DAWs and so it shows the tracks in stereo pairs. Try setting tracks to mono / finding where you can set mono inputs.

Also, its been said many times before, but make sure you are using the ASIO drivers.

I figured that he was using Cubase LE, which only lets you arm the tracks in pairs. I could be wrong, though.

He rhymed off a whole bunch that he had tried but with no luck.
i have tried Magix music maker, Samplitude, fl studio, Cubase
Just the basic assigning each track that's holding him back.
Once he figures it out, he'll be well on the way to Platinum.
Bob:
Whichever DAW you choose (Samplitude is simpler but Cubase is better at configuring your inputs) have look around in "Options" and "Preferences".
Choose "Presonus" (Nice choice, by the way) as your inputs & outputs, select 16 or 24 bit at 44.1 and assign each track the way Dastrick suggested and TINKER!
It shouldn't really matter what you choose as your PC or Laptop, default sound card but by choosing "Presonus" you're essentially getting one potential bug out of the way. Just means you'll have to keep it switched on when doing other things.

Hate to tell you this, but that cable probably won't work. The maximum length for a FireWire cable is about 14.5 feet unless you use specially designed repeaters on both ends.

The cable works fine, haha.
But um, it's not that the tracks didn't show up or anything, I just don't know how to use software xD. I would assign a track and then I couldn't assign any other tracks for some reason, but I tried this method and it worked, but my cubase froze and messed up, but thanks for the help, I seriously appreciate you guys helping me out, didn't think I would figure this out on my own, haha.:p:D
EDIT: ok so I think I got it working in samplitude, but I put every track input to mono and in order, but for output it's still in pairs and I just recorded somethin, but only 5 out of 8 tracks are being recorded. Anyone know why? Is it because of the output?
