Hi, I hope this is the correct forum. When I record using my firepod should the red lights come on intermitently or not at all? The bass for instance comes on only when playing extreme low notes, the drum over heads blink ever so slightly on down beats not so much on fills. Should I back either of these off more or let them go? The bass does tend to sound slightly distorted when playing low notes. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance Big Tom

If you see the red light, ride your levels low, you cannot have a clipped input and try to fix it later. You can always use a compressor to get the punch later so keeps your levels moderate to a level it does not clip.

turn them down. I try not to hit even yellow, so I use a pad on almost everything.

Firepod's don't have a "yellow", but digital clipping should be avoided at all costs

Go with your ears. If the bass is sounding distorted then back off on the signal.

Different gear will light up the clip light at different levels. It sounds like the Firepod triggers the clip light when the distortion is already happening. Other units will give you the clip light indicator just *before* distortion, which I find a bit more useful.

So because of the different implementations of clip lights, go with your ears first and foremost no matter what gear you are using. As Jeyan says, you can't fix distortion later.
