Guinea Pig
Hi guys,

after finding out the hardway that Delta 1010 isnt compatible with my mac, i now have £469 to spend on a new soundcard. I was looking at the Presonus firepod, but i dont really need that many inputs. I do alot of electronic ambient kinda stuff and only really need live bass and vocals. So 2-4 inputs would be fine. I saw the Firebox which looks pretty decent, can anyone recommend this? Just want to check it all out before ordering it really.

Cheers people :)

It seems the price difference between the two makes the pod a much better value.

It's next on my list of upgrades.

i like my firepod lots. but for the money, its worth it over the box. if you absolutly don't need it & never will, get the box. but i dunno.

i bought a Firebox over the weekend. the preamps are clean and it's freaking brainless to install and get running smoothly. it's built like a tank.

my complaint is that the firewire connection in the back of it isn't the sturdiest and if you wiggle it AT ALL while you're recording, you'll get dropouts.

b/c i want to use it as a mobile (location) recording interface, this is unacceptable and as soon as i give it another field test tomorrow night, i'm going to return it.

cheers,
wade

I will give you a good review. I have had the Firebox now for 2 weeks and it has worked perfectly. The preamps do sound much better than the pres on my Zoom multitracker. This has made a difference in my recordings. I haven't had a problem with dropouts or the connector shaking loose because it just sits on my desk and doesn't move. I have been using it with the Cubase LE software that came with it and everything works perfectly. I also had my drum machine hooked up to the midi and that also works with no problems.

Having said this, I will also say that the only thing I have to compare it to is my Zoom MRS 1044. I liked the Zoom but bought the Firebox because I needed to record 4 inputs. The Zoom would only do 2. I recorded a song with the Firebox last week which by the way was my first computer only recording and I am very pleased with the results. Even using live drums instead of just drum machine I was able to get nice clean recordings.
I'm happy with the Firebox.

Great stuff, just put in an order for it :)

Thanks for the replies guys!!
