Hi Everyone,

1st post I've ever made and just looking to people's experience.

I have an M-audio Delta 66 Card and Omni I/O front end but need to go to usb on my laptop now so have been looking at usb cards.

Just need 2 mic inputs and a stereo line.

Has anyone got any suggestions , you can probably tell that from the age of the gear I'm using I haven't had to look at buying any gear for a long long time , there really has been no need to as the M-audio combi I've been using has been great for the last 10 years !!

Shops have recommended a presonus audiobox 44vsl or m-audio c600 has anyone got any thoughts on these or does anyone know of any other stand-out quality units ??

Your help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks

John

The vsl is a good choice ;)

Im using their digimax 8r but im thinking of the vsl1818 to go with it. Id avoid focusrite, whilst their products are great value they are just too instable in my experience...
Tascam might be worth looking at too if youre on a budget

Thanks kcearl , a happy presonus user is always a good sign , I've also had focusrite and had a few little issues.

I'll check out the tascam stuff as I go waaaayyyy back with there portastudios !!

I'm another happy presonus user (Firestudio Mobile). Sounds good and the cue mix software is really simple to use. However, i was an unhappy Maudio user for years so, in this scenario especially, i'm probably more than slightly biased ;)

Wow, 2 happy presonus users and not 1 m-audio...........I think this audiobox 44 is the way to go !!

I still use a delta 66 with an omni i/o, ive got it spdif into a Scarlett...still a great card after all these years and the omnis pres are great too :)

You know what......... I think I'll just get a new desktop PC because I agree with you about the Omni I/O.

I love the way it works and how stable it is. I've been shopping around for usb interfaces and a lot of the salesman keep telling me that the Delta 66 is old now and it's converters can't keep up etc etc but.........I just can't hear it myself and everyone I've ever recorded can't either , with a cheap DBX compressor on the inserts and a Boss SE-50 on the effects send and return along with a CAD M179 mic I've come up with really good results !!!!

It's a shame there's nothing that works quite like the Omni I/O with a usb connection........I would buy that !!:)

yeh I had the quattro, and once you got it set up it was pretty stable...but no phantom/xlr and they stopped supporting it after XP...but the omni/66s great..I doubt I'll bin it until its not supported anymore

I've heard that about the quattro too.

For usb I may check out the fast track ultra but there seem to be so many mixed feelings about it on here !!
The M-audio C600 doesn't seem to have inserts on it or that could be the way forward..........Decisions decisions.......

Presonus have made a statement about clicks and pops in the VSL range.
They are still working on a resolve. Some computers are trouble free with this.
However
I am considering the 44VSL as well for travelling and standard PC laptop trends dumping lovely firewire like a bunch of idiots.
MAC too expensive
My home studio I have a bullet proof Firestudio Mobile (love it) plugged into a PC tower.
Only feature wish for the VSLs is a couple of normal lines in like the Firestudio.
(Sorry forgot to qoute to jpb123 on buying a 44VSL)

Its funny I am also another 10+ year user of a delta 66 with omni studio box and looking at the 44vsl.... I have had nothing but a great experience with the omni... I am looking to do a 64 bit setup to futureproof myself and my recording path.... If firewire would have stayed around I'd probably end up with a presonus firepod for a mobile setup as I've heard mostly great things...

However, I've heard all kinds of bad about the Audioboxes especially these new vsl ones.... I just want something portable with the reliability of my last setup... Even just two pres would be fine if it could just be bus powered and give the option to use as a standalone pre.... The usb would be great so that you could use it on any computer!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I don't really see the need for the vsl software (unless you do alot of tracks in your project) as I've never had issues with latency even tracking through the DAW with effects going... It would be really nice if the VSL features were optional and you could just go straight to the daw... Please consider this Presonus if you're listening!!!! In the meantime, please anybody that could add to this discussion, I could use the advice... When you have a piece that works so flawlessly for so long, you don't always stay in the loop!

P.s. I'm not finished using my xp/omni setup until I can't build computers that XP will suppport or I can't find Omni setups online.... It was really that fantastic for me! Definitely the best $300 some odd dollars I've ever spent!

No experience of any, but I'm about to buy a budget interface and most of my reading of the forums and reviews suggest presonus has weaker, less stable drivers than focusrite.

Ended up getting a Roland Octacapture USB as a general portable sound card.
It's rock solid in every way.

Presonus is a much better company to deal with, they just did a repair on my very old "Firebox". The Audio box is, I think the best deal now unless you want to record ar 96K. Then you need the 22VSL.

I still prefer my Firebox to the newer and less expensive Audiobox but if you need bus powered USB either of the Presonus boxes are the way to go.

Drivers??? You don't need to install drivers. The interface is class compliant. I just plug it in and it works, no software to install. But then maybe if you are using a Windows PC you need asio drivers?
