First of all, I'm speaking of the presence notch that is just aside of the equalizer in guitar amplifier. What does this thing do, I don't have one notch of it on my amplifier so I don't know myself.

Are you talking about the presence knob? (control)
Normally it is a feedback loop for the high end on tube amps.
Think of it as another type of treble control.
