Hello all!

I am in the process of laying down some vocal tracks for a hip-hop project I've been working on. I am currently using the Shure SM58 and Beta 58A, which are fantastic microphones all round. That being said, i'm interested in looking at some mics that are specifically superb in recording vocals.

What would you guys suggest?

I can't imagine not have a SM7b lying around...

That said, I haven't had a chance to try that new Telefunken LDD... I can only imagine that it's spectacular.

i prefer the shure KSM44.

excellent mic, for more than just vocals.

I use the KSM 44 for everything from vocals to drum OH th brass. Used around $400-$500.
The KSM 32 uses the same elements, but omits the bells and whistle of the 44 and its considerably less expensive.

Depending on your budget, any of the above including the 7 would be a very noticeable improvement over the 58. The 58 is a great mic, don't get me wrong- it's intended application is live sound, not recording.

With no price limit this could become the longest thread in the history of the forum. This calls for lots of:

Do you have a price range? If not have a look at this mic, I should point out that I have not got one for a reason that will become obvious when reading the price. Mind you it's still on the wish list.

Alan.

having the multi patterns available on the ksm44, over the 32, IS the price of admission!
