Hi.
I just bought Shure PG48.
I'm wondering what to buy. Cheap preamp, audio interface?
Also i can order a transistor preamp from guy who makes stuff like that.
I don't have a lot of money and i want to record fast as possible.

Assuming you want to record to a computer, don't buy a preamp.
You'll need more gear on top of it for best results.

You could buy a usb mixer, but I don't see the point. Generally they give more limitations than gains.

Get a nice simple single or dual channel audio interface from presonus or tascam or someone like that, unless you plan to expand into the likes of micing drum kits in the near future.
In that case, buy well and buy once; A nice 8 channel interface from Tascam or similar will see you through for a long time.

Get the apogee one hook it up USB and then connect your mic through the break out cable..Its $150

We are making big assumptions that you are going to plug into a computer. The reason I suggested a $50 mixer is because you bought a $40 mic and said you didn't have a lot of money. $150+ for an interface seems a bit unbalanced until you figure out what you want to do.

So, it might be helpful to understand what you want to record, and what kind of computer you have, or what you were planning to plug that microphone in to.

The fastest way as possible to record is to buy a decent, digital handheld recorder, IMO. The mics in that would almost certainly be better than that Shure, and the recording quality as good as any collection of 2 or 3 inexpensive pieces of hardware.

Just my $.02.

what other gear would you add to a pre and a mic? Im asking a general question.

You'd need to add analog to digital conversion and a digital audio to data interface.

Sure, a computers line input will do this, but usually not to a high standard, and more often than not with unwanted noise or interference.

For the OPs benefit, most of the basic two channel interfaces that you see combine mic preamps, analog to digital converters and usb data conversion.

Well said steeno.
go the interface route preferably not the mixer one you will waste less money long term.

you must spread some rep around before giving it to stennamaroo again.

Don't know your budget, but something like the M-Audio Delta 44, 66, or 1010 are not too expensive, and pretty up to the task. The transistor preamp could be pretty cool. I'm working on something like that. (Now I know what I'm going to do this weekend....)
