B was a bit grating to me. I liked A - but i could picture also utilizing B on certain sources. If its high gain enough, ribbons.

The year is twenty zero nine. 106 votes reached on this preamp poll.

Finally, in my old age, it gives me great pleasure to reveal the names of the preamps.

Preamp A was the FMR RNP
Preamp B was the M-Audio DMP3

Fixed it for ya.:D

Man what an old thread! Just for kicks and giggles though I listened side by side, over and over again. There is to my ear quite a difference, and I definitely preferred B. I don't own either. B was crisper, clearer and to me would be much easier to mix with. To me A was like a picture slightly out of focus. Sorry Nuemes, but I don't agree with what you hear. That's what makes the world such an interesting place though. Don't know why I just wasted a half an hour on this thread, but hey, it was fun.

saw this pop up and listened too, even though it's old..

funny, i came to similar conclusions, but preferred A!

i found it to be warmer in the lows, and not as harsh in the highs..

both sound nice though, and sure, B might end up being more usable in a mix!
