hey, all--

i have a white MXR "micro amp" guitar pedal with only a GAIN control. i keep it in my bass case with a cord and headphones, so i can practice anywhere. all it does is jack up the signal--would this work as a decent preamp?

also have a bigass peavey XR 600E powered mixer, with 6 line/mic inputs (6 knob controls each), and a 9-band EQ. considering my total lack of experience, is that overkill as a mixer? can i use this thing as a preamp wihout frizzling my soundcard?

As to the mixer, certainly, as long as you use the "line level" outputs and not the speaker outs.
I`m not familiar with the mxr practice amp, but it is basically a preamp with only gain and eq. You should be fine, however I would use the line in on the sound card, not the mic.

if you use that peavey, don't plug the speaker outs into your soundcard or you'll get hundreds of watts of computer-trashing fun!
