Hello,

I acquired a PR99 MKIII which is being estimated for a service.
Apart from charging a big bunch of dollars for simple components replacements, he says the heads are worn out (6mm flat) and needs replacement (more $ to spend).

Do you really think it is an absolute necessity ?
I was planning on using the Revox for mixdown and occasionnal tape-delay (I record with a Tascam 8track). But if the performances are low due to the heads and I lose a whole bunch of frequencies in the process, this could be useless.
This is getting so expensive that I might go for a digital or DSD mixdown device like the MR1000 and sell the Revox but I am puzzled.
Is it worth the trouble ? or a high quality digital mixdown will do the trick? I would have preffered to stay entirely in the analog domain, but I try to be pragmatic right now and avoid getting grey hair.

Thank you

Tough to judge from the photo. John French will be able to tell you if they can be re-lapped which might be a lot cheaper then replacement.
