After all the posts by manning I checked the program out myself and it is indeed an interesting piece of software especially for that money. I'm personally using Tracktion, but I'm wondering how many of you are using software by PGMusic? Just out of curiosity...

Lookin pretty slim at this point in the game.

Ah well ... if this where a poll ..... I vote No.

yea.. i was thinking about a poll.. but i knew most of the answers would be No as most of the people seem to use something else.. and If I'd ask if you know anybody who does use it... we all know manning..

anyways... so.. is there anybody who uses it??

actually james and crankz are incorrect.
if you go to the pg site and click on reviews youll find a boatload of user reviews on it like fantastic..moved from cubase or some other package.
reviews(on left hand side)>>>select powertracks pop up tab, then at top of next page..drop down menu , select customer comments. most users tend to ber more introverted than myself.
traidma - if you dont belive it blows away traktion. just try the demo.
the midi features alone will prove i'm right.
fyi - a lot of powertracks users from my discussions with them are often quite seasoned types whove tried everything else.
as i said..just try the demo. also search the back threads of this forum for people ive turned onto it. comments like amazing and easy to use are what some told me. its up to you. peace.
and heres a direct qoute from a mag review....

"PowerTracks' integration of digital audio, MIDI, scoring, and editing features is seamless... [PowerTracks] will hang tough in most any desktop music setup."

Yes, I have PowerTracks Pro Audio version 8. I am new to recording with a computer (I have mostly recorded in recent years using a 4-track cassette recorder and wanted more tracks). I got it up and running without a lot of hassle and I didn't have to spend a lot of time (and frustration) learning basic tasks with it (like arming a track, adjusting levels, EQing, adding an effect, panning). I have only recorded one song with it so far but am happy with it.

Umm ..... How am I incorrect?
The question was for how many people in this forum use Powertracks.
At the time of my post .... nobody had answered. So it was "slim at this point in the game".
It still remains pretty slim. So far we have two users that have answered. One of which is you.
On to the rest of my previous post where I state as to whether or not I use Powertracks if this where a poll. My vote was a big fat NO.

So, I am incorrect?
I beg to differ.

crankz.
powertracks users generally dont frequent this forum.
there are thousands of pro's using the product.
all you have to do is read the customer reviews. via the link i posted.
peace.

I knew that this was comming for some time, I dont use it either, spend some money and get some real software!!!

Oki, I'm giving a shot.. trying it out... wont kill me right?!
Downloaded the demo, watched the video.
Firts impression is.. the layout is difficult.. can't easily find what i need. With Tracktion it took me 5 minutes to find out how to operate the thing, but PowerTracks is not this kind of software.
Keeping trying..

Manning, how can I record two tracks at a time from my Edirol UA-5 USB? Is there a piano roll?

I like how I can assign images to tracks.. it does make life easier in finding what is what! And the images are pretty :)

traidma. i use classic view. LEARN TY - ie..track type.
against each track - is a midi plug. click on it for audio recording it turns to mono or stereo wave. what are you trying to do ?
record a midi track ? or a mono audio track ? or a stereo audio track ?
if your really open minded be prepared to spend some time going thru the features in depth. because there are a huge list of features.
if youve recorded a midi track and you want to edit, there are many sophisticated midi editing features in the midi event editor.
and the notation view. if you bring up the notation view you will see notes hilited as the track plays.
to do audio editing bring up the waveform editor for the track. drag the mouse hilites. there are a slew of effects built in like echo, reverb. chorusing.
the user forum at pg is very active. follow it for lots of tips and tricks. this is what i did when i started off years ago. note the touches that pro's like for example the ability to include special fonts for jazz. and so on.
if you have more Q's - ask. also go to the pg musicians web site to hear pro results done with it. you wont beat it unless you spend 1200 bucks on software.

traidma. heres a check list of features to check out.
nothing comes close.
1. editing of midi velocity dynamics.
2.drum grid editor velocity values. plus triplet feel.
3. handling jazz swing music. jazz fonts.
4. channel filtering and rechannelling .
5.gradual increases/decreases in tempo. tempo mapping.
6. editing of note durations.
7. 5 beat grouping of notes.
8. guitar fretboard display showing notes being played, and notation for guitarists. i believe the new version now handles other types like bass, ukelele etc
very usefull for midi guitarists.
guitar tracks printed out in guitar tab format
9. printing blank staff pages.
10. slash chord ability eg..Cm/g
11. audio track de-essing and hum filter and noise gating.
12. interpreting chords from an imported midi file.
13. editing of sysex messages.sysex delay handling for synths that need it.
14. filling tracks with a drum style pattern either preset or your own making.
15. on screen pitch bender if the musician doesnt have a synth
with pitch bend.
16. jukebox KAR feature.
17. a slew of effects presets for various types of audio tracks..
like vocals, guitar, bass, drums etc etc
18. very detailed notation editing, and printing features.
including lead sheet production.
any of the foregoing features
are very handy for home and pro musicians.
there are many new features in version 9 as well.

Umm.. I was trying to record two mono audio channels at the same time. I get both of the channels from the UA5 in the stereo mode but.. how can I get the separately in mono. Something like.. how can I assign the incoming channels to different tracks in PT?

under TY there is a mode to do this.
midi OR mono audio track OR stereo track OR split to two tracks after recording. if not it is purely how your UA works.
also NOTE..powertracks will work with multi input sound cards if you get one in the future. also read the tech faq's at the pg site. full of tips.
up in the menus also notice a test for how many tracks your pc will do.
out of interest tell me what it says. peace.

also - note - in the brand new version 9 note - if i remember reading it ,,,
if you record STEREO to one track you can now edit the left and right channel of the stereo track independently of each other.

cool, have to look into that.
I dont think I understand what you mean by 'TY' ?

If you meant the Test Audio Performance.. it says for playback.. 48.

ok - if it says 48 tracks as the result of the test. your in great shape with your pc. if you go to powertracks classic view youll see a column headed TY meaning track type. you click on the midi plug icon for various recording options. one being to record to TWO SEPERATE TRACKS.

didnt find the 'two separate tracks'.. only gives me option of midi, mono audio and stereo audio.
just a quick question.. how do you use the guitar fret thingy?

overall.. the program seems to be really good for people who use Midi a lot, as lots of Midi features are fastly available. If you do mostly audio... I'd stay with Tracktion or something else.
It's frustrating when I can't figure the program out in four hours of intense figuring out!! aaaah!! :(

I'm trying more.. not gonna give up!!

4 hrs ? its really easy.
you just record a track then another and another up to 48.
its a doddle.
what are you trying to figure out ?
did you in preferences identify your sound card drivers to the program.
?? all programs need you to do this.

also note - traidma id you need help during weekdays if you go to the pg site there is a feature called "live help". ive never needed it .
but its very usefull, as you can talk to support people live.
