I was wondering if it made a difference in poweramps used with the Behringer V-Amp Pro? Solid State or Tube? I can't seem to find what behringer recomends? I usually am a tube guy, and have a great modded 5150 head, but also have the v-amp pro for direct recording, but just was wondering if anyone has used it for live purposes? What poweramps people were using with it, and how it sounded? thanks.....Lorde

Most seem to think that some form of standard power amp and speakers works best with modeling units like POD and V-Amp. Most with more standard guitar amps seem to find that using such units in the effects loop works better than in front of the amp.

There is lots of discussion about this point on the Line 6 site or the V-Amp Yahoo groups site.

Still need help?

Thanks Ed......I tried to get onto the group but am awaiting permission.....anyone else? Those who are using with the Line6 Pod Pro can chip in their 2 cents as well.......thanks

The guitarist in my band uses a Pod Pro. He runs it through a Mesa/Boogie Bass 400+ head into a Genz Benz 4x12 cab. Sounds great.

I have a V-Amp Pro that I run through a Tech 21 Power Engine, which was supposedly designed to use with modellers like the V-Amp and Pod. It took some tweaking, but I'm pretty happy with the sounds I get.

Save and buy a tube amp!! Modelers are great but, are MODELERS still!! With everything thats out now, nothing beats a good tube amp. If you're playing in a band nothing else will give you the dynamics and clarity you'll need to cut and sit properly in the mix.

Thanks guys....

I do have a modded 5150 head and a g-major with a full stack....that is my live rig.....I mainly use the V-Amp for recording quick scratch tracks, or to thicken up guitars with layers.....but I was just thinking about a backup incase I blow a tube on the road and need a quick replacment...I have the V-Amp pro and thought maybe instead of buying a backup head, I could get by with a tube poweramp or something along those lines? huh>....?

Trace Elliot perhaps?

The now defunct Trace Elliot line of power amps that used their 'patents pending' transformer-coupled solid state output stage do a good impression of a clean-sounding tube power output stage with that bit of 'spring' some of us like, as opposed to the brick-wall delivery of a typical solid state amp. Their G-RP3 preamp sounded great through one of these amps. I reckon a POD or V-Amp would also sound good. And since they're no longer in business can be picked up pretty cheap. There's also the weight advantage, too.

I currently use a MosValve power amp with the V-Amp Pro. That combo works well into dual 2x12 slant cabinets. Others have commented that Carvin amps like the DCM150 also sound very good.

I hope to move to the Carvin soon, as it is lighter and only a single rack space.

Check out this new product from Harry Kolbe:

http://www.atomicamps.com

This is an all tube power section and speaker designed specifically for digital amp modelers (V-Amp, POD and the like). It apparently got rave reviews in Mix Magazine although I can't actually find the review :o

I had the opportunity to speak with Harry Kolbe a few years back when he worked on one of my vintage amps. He's a great guy and loves talkin' tubes!

The folks who have seen/heard them really like them. The cost is about $500 for the amp and single 12 speaker, not includeing the modeling unit. V-Amp Pro users would have to sit their units on top as it does not look like they would fit the templace.

The amp is 18 watts, but is supposed to be quite loud.
