Power... the utility is giving me variable voltage, 118 to 123 volts. Problem?

Hi,

I went and got a power conditioner to cut down on any noise that might be generated last year.

It has a voltmeter. In summer, it reads 118 to 120 volts, usually 118. Now that it's winter, It's reading 122 or 123.

I have a surge arrestor, then the power conditioner, then my gear.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

thanks,

Thaddeus

The power conditioner should remove any spikes, which all you need to concern yourself with.

That kind of variation is typical. Your equipment is designed to handle voltage fluctuations. Power conditioners are necessary but for different reasons; spikes noise, RFI, etc.

Uninterruptable power supplies have built in power conditioners even for the non-battery backed buss. Plus, they offer a guarantee against damage. I run my whole studio through one and would not consider getting a separate rack-mounted power conditioner.

Fuel for thought.
