I was planning to put an AMD XP 2200 processor in my computer, but I noticed the case came with a PowerMan-branded power supply, 300W. It's a Pentium power supply. I've also read some good reviews of the Pentium 4 2.26GHz 533MHz. Now I don't know what to get. The case will take any of these power supplies:
300W Athlon(+24.00)
300W P4 Ready ENP-0730(+19.00)
320W Silence TT-300SS(+19.00)
300W Antec(+24.00)
350W P4 HEC-350LD-T(+27.00)
420W Silent TT-400SS(+31.00)
Enermax EG365P-VE(+33.00)
Enermax EG365P-VE-FC(+41.00)
Antec 350W PP352X(+41.00)
Enermax EG365P-VE-FMA(+49.00)
Silencer 235W(+59.00)
Enermax EG365P-VE-FCA(+59.00)
Enermax EG465P-VE(+63.00)
Antec 400W(+64.00)
Enermax EG465P-VE-FC(+67.00)
Silencer 275W(+70.00)
Turbo-Cool 300W(+74.00)
Enermax EG465P-VE-FMA(+83.00)
Enermax EG465P-VE-FCA(+89.00)
Enermax EG651P-VE(+134.00)
Silencer 400W(+144.00)
Turbo-Cool 475W(+180.00)
Enermax EG651P-VE-FMA(+154.00)

What processor/power supply combo should I get for best recording quality? Is noise in the power supply going to matter?

go with the AMD and if your computer is in the same room that you track in, the noise of the powersupply WILL make a difference...

the enermax models have some +5V rail problems, so stay away from them... check out some reviews on the silencer models...

I just bought a P4-2.26GHz computer with a 350W power supply from vprMatrix. I had my old P2-400 next to it and it sounded like a jet engine in comparasin to the P4 system.

After hearing my friend's Athlon with its 2 fans, there's no way in hell I'd ever consider one.

Is the Silencer 275W going to be enough? I've been hearing good things about the P4. The only good things I heard about the AMD was it was cheaper, and at best, it was the same as the P4. Most people I've talked to said the 533Mhz bus blows the AMD away. Will the Silencer work with both?

athlon xp's kick p4's... people are suing intel now because the mis-represented the power of the P4's...

as long as you don't use AMD stock cooling, and get yourself a good heatsink and (quiet) fan and good (quiet) PSU and stuff then your system will extremely quiet!

the recommended minimum for an AMD system is 300W, so, no, 275 will not be enough... get 350 or more.

BTW, according to reviews, the antec true-power PSUs are the quietest PSU's on the market. They are also some of the best on the market...
