hi everybody!
on june, 2nd I have to do a small service for a local heavy metal festival.
I don't have a lot of stuff: only a Spirit 16:4:2 mixer and a couple of fx (ART multiverbIII and Behringer Virtualizer).
(if we're in need, I would even buy a Berhinger multicom compressor).
I'm the first one who say these effects sucks, but I'm still not billionaire! :-)
The first question is:
I'd like to have some heavy drum sounds like Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Children Of Bodom.
I have also got an AKG drumkit mics. 1 AKG D112 and some SM57, SM58.
How can I come even close to those sounds?
compression, reverb?

Triggers...or eq/compression!

Hey with those type of bands they typically trigger the bass drum for that clicky sound. If you cannot trigger i say compress the shit out of the bass drum, and cut some lows, and add a bit of high mids. it will give you that clear click heavy sound. Compress anything on the drums you have a channel to do so with. That will probably get you the closest to the drum sounds you are after. Make sure the drummer can tune his drum set first off because that is the most important. But honestly triggers are generally how you achieve that type of sound. Hope this helps.

I can't help you with your problem, but I will say you mentioned 3 of my top 10 favorite bands of all time...
