Hi guys... i´m planning to buy a pair of NS10s... the thing is that i have not enough money for the 10s and an amplifier.
Is any way to start using them with and old hifi as an amplifier?
Thanks...

The NS10s are not very good monitors, but they became very popular. For what you'll pay for the NS10s you can get a pair of powered Events if you do some shopping around.

Not very good monitors?
IMO - that's right, they aren't... while guys who are used to them can use them effectively (as anyone used to a particular monitor can), they are a very poor-sounding monitor and a particularly bad choice for someone not used to them, especially compared to the many other options available. On top of that, they are seriously overhyped, and consequently greatly overpriced....

But I will agree with you on the Hafler P-series amp... I've had a P3000 since '99 and it's excellent.

I use ns10's powered by a jvc stereo receiver with the eq flat.

You work with what you got. :o

look for a used onkyo receiver .those have great specs and the ns-10ms are really a home type speaker anyway. set them up with a set of computer speakers or with jammin boommbox speakers so you can compare back and forth and you will make useable mixs.the yammies look kool.

Thanks guys! ;)
BTW, for those who think that ns10 is not the best option for the money...
Which other models (in the same price range) worth checking out?

I use NS10M's partly because they are such a studio standard around the world. I power them with an Alesis RA-100 amp which I bought used for around $100 a few years ago. I've seen them going for even less lately. Neither the Yamaha's or the Alesis are the ultimate, but they work for me and I'm happy with them.
