My power fan has been acting strangely lately...running at low RPMs, making it very loud. sometimes when i restart, the problem goes away...but it eventually starts running strangely again. the cpu and hard drive fans work fine and steady...but when i monitor the power fan using a utility, the line in the graph is not a straight line. Is there a setting in XP or for my mobo (Asus P4533B) that auto adjusts the power fan based on heat...and can i force it run at a steady rpm? thanks!

humm...so should i try the oil thing or is that a bad idea? It almost seems like the mobo is auto controlling it and not doing a very good job.

Done it myself before. You just need a drop or two.
If the fan is noisy when the rpms go down, it's the fan that isn't running smoothly. The motherboard is not in this equation.

You are taking the oil into your own hands. The fan is a very cheap part and is very easy to replace. It is not woth the time it's going to take to try and oil it.

From my personal experience it is worth it. But YMMV.
