Power Conditioners FurmanPL8 and TrippLite IBAR12

both of these Power conditioners/Surge/ etc..are around $100.
i bought the Furman PL-8 and looked under the hood.
Tonight lifted the hood on a TrippLite IBAR 12. rackmount.
i thought the Furman was a joke, but now I know its a joke...proofs in the pudding...or picture in this case.

the Furman PL8 has 1qty disc MOV on each receptacle.
you could put this on a receptacle yourself for about 25cents. ;)

now the TrippLite IBAR 12 :)
same price range, great build, does all kinds of filtering, EMIRFI, SURGE...true conditioner...and under the hood is actual devices that deal with filtering and conditiong. its for real... i've been reading and it has the stuff inside. the torrodial, disc caps, regulator...very nice.

I have a stack of those Tripplite units, they are excellent but are not true conditioners. A conditioner is a unit that takes an input power supply, and outputs a clean waveform that remains at a constant voltage. An example of that is the Furman AR-15 II. A conditioner needs a transformer to do the job, and neither the PL8 or IBar 12 have transformers.

What I've done in my studio is feed the power to a Furman AR-15 II, from there to an Equi=Tech balanced power unit, and then from there to the various power strips that the gear is connected to (Tripplite IsoBar 12's and Furman PL-8's).
 
All those power conditionning and filtering units are mostly jokes.
A well-designed power supply will take care of regulating everything.
SO if your equipement has nice power supplies, there are no reasons to bother with that.
A good surge protector is all you really need.

According to Craig Anderton in one of the many mags he writes for, comparing a 'good surge protector' to an Uninteruptable Power Supply is like comparing a fly swatter to an Uzi. And I tend to take his word over yours.

A UPS is a different beast than a power conditionner or filter :rolleyes:
I recommend the use of a UPS on the computer, but not the other gear, as those UPS sometimes do nasty things to the AC they put out, even if it's not in UPS mode.

So yeah, I pretty much agree with that dude :)

yeah your right, my mistype on the "true conditioner"...

the real stuff is far different than these things. Equi=Tech, Balanced power, are the real clean "conditioned" juice!

I still stand by what I say, er...until someone proves me wrong again. :p

Good call, too many marketing gimmicks and misunderstood terminology.

Filtering
Surge protection
Conditioning
UPS

Are all different concepts.

I think you mean this is a regulator. I am looking to get one.
 
Correct, regulator. The AR-15 II is a voltage regulator.
 
I have a brand-new TrippLite LCR 2400 for sale... :D

That's *The Beast* for power conditioning and voltage regulation...
 
How much are you asking for and do you hav a link to a product description?
