ok...just telling you that i am a complete newbie at sound engineering so i am sorry for what will probably be one of the stupidest questions ever posted...now with that in mind here it goes....
i just bought my rack yesterday (its an odyssey 10 space mixer combo). and when i got home i began installing my gear...first i put in the mixer, then the equalizer, but when i went to install my power amp i found a problem. when i bought the power amp, it had the mounting "ears" screwed onto the back of it. so i unscrewed them and replaced them on the side of the amp even with the front panel. but when i put it in the rack, the holes wouldnt not line up with the holes on the rails (i dont mean lining up verticaly, but the holes on the ears were too close to the amp to even reach the holes on the rails [sorry...confused yet?]). so i tried taking the ears off and mounting it a different way (screwing the larger oval shaped holes to the amp and attach the smaller holes to the rails). now i could get the holes to line up...but then i came to another problem...the power amp was too small for the rack (it would screw into one end, but was unable to reach the other rail - it was almost a whole inch short). i dont kno what to do...is it possible to buy different ears...should i go back to the store and ask someone to do it for me..if you could inderstand this message then please help. if you need any more details just ask...thanx a lot - chris

Maybe if you told us what make & model of amplifier it was we could look at a picture and figure something out.

Sounds like somebody swapped off the original rack ears. Reinstall the rack ears "correctly" (like you did at first), and measure the width of the front panel including the ears. If that's not to spec, return the unit to the dealer.

If you don't want to bother with returning, you could drill correctly spaced holes 1 1/4" from the bad holes, or try reaming out the existing holes a bit.
