power amp advice

I am currenly using for my monitors a set of the little M-audio sp5's powered monitors.

I am about to upgrade a little and thinking of going with passive monitors, seems to give me more options for small upgrades as I go along.

Here is my question.

What do I look for in an inexpensive power amp?

Looking at some used Alesis RA-100's ---

Hafler makes the best inexpensive amps.......the TA series (1100 and 1600) just flat out rock......nice clean power and very quiet......
