Has anyone ever potted pickups and if so,how is it done?

No, I haven't, and neither should you. First of all, unless they are over thirty years old, they have already been potted, and second of all, you can destroy your pickups quite easily. If they really need it, find someone with experience to do it for you. I would probably call Lindy Fralin, as he is currently the best guy doing pickup work out there, and his prices are quite reasonable. Again, don't try doing this yourself. You will almost certainly destroy your pickups.

They're Allparts minihumbuckers.I e-mailed them about some squeal I'm getting at loud volumes with really high gain patches.They told me they aren't potted.I will certainly take your advice and not do it.Any thoughts as to what I could do to minimize the problem?I really like the sound of the pickups.

It may, however, be cheaper to get some pickups which are already potted, like the Gibson or Seymour Duncan pickups. I don't know what he charges for potting, as I have only ever had him rewind pickups, which is only $40 a coil, which is really reasonable for someone of his caliber.
