huh???
The questions always comes up...Which laptops work for audio? Which laptops have TI Firewire chipsets? So I would like for people to post PC laptops that they know WORK. We'll get a list compiled that will help people (including myself) choose a laptop.

Please list at least the brand name & model # and which audio interface it works with. Of course you could list more information if you want to. :)

And please don't say Mac. :spank:This is not for a Mac/PC debate. :D

Thanks,

HP Compaq 6710b with Focusrite Saffire LE works allright(do we have to mention FW interfaces only?)

Firewire or USB...although it seems that Firewire is the most questionable.

okay, update then:
laptop: HP Compaq 6710b

FW interfaces:
Focusrite Saffire LE
Hercules 16/12
CME MATRIX K

USB interfaces:
Edirol UA-20
ESI Waveterminal U24
M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

And please don't say Mac. :spank:This is not for a Mac/PC debate. :D

Thanks,

Your loss. "Compatibility" concerns became a non issue for me in 2007 when I switched to the Mac after 15 years on Windows.

I'm happy for you. But, like I said............this is about PC laptops.

tried Acre netbooks?

Do any of you have experience with netbooks? I think they are becoming more promising for lite, on the spot editing when used with something like the zoom r16. I know I fluff that r16 a lot but I think it is completely underestimated. What if you want to snap a few pictures of high quality (NOT your cell phone) and throw them up on the net, boot up the netbook and get the pictures up.

back to the netbooks.
I like some Acre with 2 gigs of ram, 250 gig hdd, 11" screen.
First thing I would do would be install some version of linux on it and find some DAW to use with the r16. Actually, I may keep windows and when i tape a live show with other gear (other than the r16), I can stream it on ustream.tv

Too bad these things only have analog video out, vga. I have a nice dvi/vga 23" monitor that I can use when not out and about.

The model I'm interested in:
Acre Aspire One 751h - 11.6"

will this be able to do everything like a $2300 mac book pro? absolutely not but I can afford the $300 acre much faster than the mac book pro meaning I can be PRODUCTIVE right now.

any input is welcome!

I don't know anything about netbooks, but I wouldn't trust them with audio work...especially live shows. I would spend my $300 on a used laptop which is probably what I'm going to do......depending on how much money we make on our garage sale this weekend. :D
