Hi!

Do you use input-monitoring in sonar? If so, what's your latency and what soundcard do you use?

I have a SB Audigy an can get it to run @20ms with one track with fx, but if I use more than one track I can't use input-monitoring at all.

I'm about to buy myself a new soundcard and I wan't to be able to use input monitoring on multiple tracks without problems. Any recommendations? So far I've been looking at the delta 44/1010 and the c-port

Sonar xl 2.1
Q-10
24/44
2.2 msec lat.
So far 20 tracks 30 fx and a Chicken Shit Soup recording.

:-o! 20ms?

How? With the Creative drivers?

Can't be... I never got my Audigy under 40 ms... ;)

.... but I hear people are able to get 8 ms latency using the kX-project drivers. Have you tried them, Swede? You'll find them here.

...nope, with creative's card you won't get less than 40 actualy. And FYI, longer the song, higher the latency. Say you can be glad to have only 20ms at first five measure (in recording), but it will develop to 40ms and more after hitting 120 measure continued wave... trust me...

And that's even with the kX-project drivers? I hear Cubase users are pretty happy with the ASIO drivers from kX...

Sonar 2
Audiophile 2496

2.9 ms

I can get it lower(1.5) but only for about two tracks and then I have to reset the slider,so I just leave it at 2.9 which is totally usable.
It helps to mute the input on the m-audio control panel to avoid a slight "flanging' sound.

Also you must take in to account the variables such as cpu,tracks,plug ins which can effect your latency.

Yes, 20ms with the latest creative drivers. I can use this setting for input-monitoring on one track or multiple dxi-instrument tracks (but not to many). Does the kx-drivers work with the audigy front?

Yup. Unfortunately also with KX driver based on my personal experience. However, it does better job than Creative's driver. My result :

1. KX Driver --> 13ms
2. Microsoft's driver (WinXP) --> 24ms
3. Creative's driver --> 36ms

10 seconds recording on SB Live! DE 5.1. Mono, 16 bit, SONAR 2XL...

I haven't done a test what it would be if I record about 4 minutes continued wave...

;)

Tried the kx-driver. All I got was crackles and pops. I just have to buy myself another soundcard!

Just installed the new Creative drivers....christ on a bike! Two years of waiting and finally they have achieved almost 20ms! (I believe it was advertised as a card with 20ms latency)

Swede is right though, it doesn't handle DirectX plugins very well at 30ms...

Well, I can record at 30ms and switch to 100 when I have to mix.

Btw, I never had any good results with the Kx drivers...

...one more thing for Soundfont geek. KX driver's limiting the poliphony, and the .sf2 file size...

That's sucks.

Okay, so I've insulted it too much... I'm sorry... :D Keep it calm dude's...
Microsoft driver rocks... :D

It's allright, it's a crappy card. :D

But how do you set up Soundfonts using Microsofts drivers? I'm putting together and old machine, and I'm sticking my old SB Audigy in it...

Put the card in... Windows will detect it, and install it's Microsoft driver. Then install Creative's firmware (which will install also the bundled driver). We do it to obtain AudioHQ only. Last thing, roll back the driver from controll panel... There you go... SB card, Creative's apps (to tweak the card's setting such as SF) with Microsoft driver... ;)

Thanks! Windows 2000 doesen't have a roll-driver-back feature (at least none that I'm aware of), so I've never figured this out! Thanks! :)

And how do you install the Microsoft drivers when you've already installed the Audigy drivers once? XP will automatically find the 'right' (=Creative) drivers and install them instead of the Microsoft drivers, if you try it for a second time. Any suggestions? Do I need to throw some files away or something like that? Or change registry settings?

Audiophile 24/96 from M-Audio - 1.5ms

Can run about 20 tracks before issues so occasionally I will jump this up.
