yea supreme is right it really can't be a battle unless everyone is battlin wit the same kit lmao, but like mental said i just wanted to hear some beats lol...so who gonna hook us up wit some sounds and i ain't talkin bout the sfs august sounds.....anyone?

I know that hip hop was founded on samples but.. I wanted to see how good we could be without sampling. The beat kit battle will be kind of generic to me.I think I'll sit that one out. I've been in those and it did nothin for me. It limited my imagination. Some suggestions for a kit. Get some jazz fusion from about '75 to about '79. You'll find some out cold bass lines and melodies. drums should be easy.Two bass drums.5 kick drums.3 snares.3 claps 3 hi hats and a few ethnic sounds.There you go.Good luck.

iono i just feel for these cats who dont have the same type of access to sounds as you or me...

but i mean.. hey if we can find some common ground as to... judging criteria... then we can definitely make this pop off...

we just gotta find a standard.

If we have the same kit, do we get to use all our plugins or do we only get to use the bare essentials(eq, reverb, compression)? Man, wit some tweaking you can take the same sounds and make totally different beats. I think it's a great idea. I don't think of it as limiting creativity, but more of forcing you to be more creative! :D It'll be a challenge to make your stuff jump out from the rest of the crowd since you all have the same exact sounds. That would be an excellent competition. Where should we get the sounds from? Maybe one of those free hotbox kits or a modern beats free kit?
 
ay tone u just got all them records make a lil sample kit and post it up and see wut we can do wit it :D
 
hmmm.............. Well, i got stevie, latimore, tom browne, lionel ritchie, quincy, smokey robinson, george benson, and chaka. Choose one. Also, i got a dial up connection :mad:. I would have to go to the school library to upload(if it's open). Also, what type of drums?
 
we should do the lionel ritchie beat battle lol, just put some samples in the kit that have drums in them and we will have to slice out the drums to create the beat ya mean?
 
DANG!!!! Now that would really be a competition. That's tight man. All you get is a sample and you gotta sample your own drums from the sample then make a beat with the sample with no other .wav's, vst, soundfonts, etc. Good gracious! I don't know if everyone will be able to pull that off but that's an excellent idea! Good stuff DesertEase. Back to the plugin question tho. Would it be a good idea to only be limited to the basic eq, compression, and reverb? I know everyone probably has different plugs and it kinda wouldn't be fair to the guy with stock plugins to go up with the guy with the waves plugins, or better.
 
yea your prolly right it should just be the basic reverb compression chorus eq. type restrictions i think that would keep it fair... so you down to make a sampler kit tone? just have 2 samples one with drums and one without and see who can come up with the best beat outta them?
 
or just tell everyone to sample the same damn lionel ritchie song. HAHA

all u gotta do is post one song and everyone sample from it....... thats gives people a little more space and that why everybody stuff wont sound exactly the same lol
