Post Christmas Therapy

Happy tune. Reminds me a bit of John Cougar. Not many complaints with the mix, sounds clear enough. I thought maybe it could use more instrumentation, sounds a bit sparse, although bring up the guitars a notch might change that perception.

Oddity at 1:03 - 1:06, is that a glitch or just a weird part? Sounds like a click on the acoustic guitar, mute that out and maybe it wouldnt stick out.

Overall, good stuff.

The crispy sound doesn't help but yes I think it could do with a few more additions. I'm simply too impatient to get these things finished :( .. a habit I'm trying to break. I reckon some hammond organ would sound great... anyone care to have a go ?

That's the bit I screwed up ! ... you weren't spose to find that ;) the timing is all messy cause my guitar strumming got out of sync (going down when spose to be be going up). The click is probably my plectrum on the scratchplate. I'll try editing as you suggest.

Thanks for listening and if your any good at organ please chip in.... I'm a collaboration junkie :)

Sounds good overall. The guitars are a bit thin and the vocal has some slight sibilance but I see you were using Rode mics. They tend to be a bit bright.

Not exactly my kind of tune, but I think it's good that you could write an uplifting tune about a bad situation. Nice arrangement.

Thanks M.Brane. I will get round to re-mixing this by next week then I'll repost. This is actually the first song I've not used any de-ess on. Since I wasn't directly face on to the mic silibance wasn't as prominent as before.... but like everyone is saying it's all a bit crisp....that's the problem with mixing on my headphones (Sennheiser HD270).. my monitors are better but it still sounded ok (at the time). I might try and add some meat to the acoustic too.

As I said in the title this whole song is really therapy for me... this christmas with my family has been awful and I needed to "sing it out" of my system. But there is always hope as the song conveys.

Thanks again for listening :)

Seriously, thanks for your comments... this thread is chugging along today ! :)

Didn't mean to Frighten you dude.I been Listening to Mindrot,Necrosanct,Deceased and Necrofagia all day and then switched to your tune.Bad idea.Good song....er.....bump

You know, for such a serious subject, this is one uptemp, snappy little song! I really like the repetition--it draws the ear in and next thing you know, the ol' foot is tapping away! I din't catch every word of the lyric, but from what i did get, you are dealing with the subject in a positive and optimistic way, which I think is good.

The other thing I liked about this was that the track was sparse, yet full. You might have been able to sneak some electric guitar riffs in there here and there, but its no big deal if you don't. Good writing!

If you change the EQ, based on other comments, don't do anything drastic--a tad less highs and a tweak in the low end, perhaps. Its just spice though, I think.

Hi people,
I did remix this song on the weekend but by some quirk I have left it at home so I can't upload it. I've even added some hammond organ which I think is OK but I'm no organ player. Just making sure this thread doesn't disappear... will post the new version tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Cheers

Wow my thread still exists ! I was fully expecting it to disappear with all this 1.5 mania... bonus. OK the new mix is up ... most obvious is the organ addition.... I'm no organ player so please tell me if I've ruined the song with it. Other than that the mix is less crispy in numerous ways... acoustic less thin.. vocals more compressed... and lots of other tweaks.

Please tell me if I'm going forwards or backwards

comments greatly appreciated as always

If anyone's interested it took about 1.5 hrs for the remix ! :D

last try ... anyone ? I know I've already got a lot of replies, just want to know if my organ addition is OK... stupid thing took me quite a few hours to get right but I'm still not sure about it.

Thanks

thanks mate .. you have restored my faith in this forum. Glad you like the song.

If you've got time please download the new version and tell me if you think the organ is a good or bad addition... that the question I'm trying to answer. It possible it only works in places.... you must be pritty familiar with the old version by now so I'd think it should be obvious. Be great to hear your opinion.

Thanks again

i like it better, but i think you may have over used it. sound's right in the pre chorus and chorus, bridge and intro, i would leave it out of the verse completely. this is all preference mind you:D but i do like the addition!!! totally different feel!!

nice work dre's!!

thank's

peace

Rick

That's what I suspected ... thanks for confirming that.

It does change the feel enormously though... it's a pritty potent sound to be used sparingly I think.

Muzeman is going to add some harp eventually too so it would be good not to fill it up.

Thanks

dres--the organ definitely helps out for the most part. I'd pull it for most of the bridge--"I looked to the sky" section until the end of that. The figure you play is very cool--it adds a nice hook to the arrangement and adds the needed counterpoint to the acoustic. Again--nice writing too! Hope this answers your question.

very uptempo. I really dug the organ. The performance was pretty good overall. nice job!

OK I think it's time to let this thread die.... and the song rest for a while. Just posted Mk4 with trimmed and modified organ if anyone still interested. Thanks heaps for everyone's help.
