possible problems

I am about to put 11's (strings) on my guitars. I usually have 10's. One of my guitars has a tremlo system. Do I need to have the guitar re-set up? should I do it myself? Do I need to double the tremlo system (2 extra springs)? Is it likely that I will knot the neck (ie-fuck it up), even though I am tuning down? what about of I put on 12's or 13's.

Personally, I would have it set up the first time by a pro. Not only for the sake of your trem, but it very well could affect your action on the neck. I made this mistake once with a floyd Rose trem, needless to say, I ended up taking it to the shop anyway.

A side note

My guitar tekkie friend pointed out to me recently that heavier strings may sound a bit better but they tear up the frets faster.
I've tried the heavier gauges but think I'll stick with .009s.
