How should I position my mike to receive the clearest best possible sound? I know that every mic is different, but I know that there are certain rules or guidelines that should be followed. Any help will be appreciated. Oh, this is for vocal work, in a padded closet.

Thanks

You might try hanging it upside down, positioned slightly above the mouth... tilted downward towards the mouth.

The reasoning for this slightly off-center placement is due to the general direction that the singers breath takes... which is slightly downward.

And don't forget the pop filter.

Good reply Doug.
Another reason to position the mic slightly above the singer is to force him to lift his chin and straighten out the throat. This lets air flow more freely and gives the vox a more open tone.
I used bubblewrap in my closet-"vocal booth". Inexpensive and effective sound deadening.
Best of luck, bspteam.

Great info guys. Any tips on spacing (mic - screen - mouth).

Thanks again.

That depends upon what is being sung... at what volume...

The pop filter could be a few inches from the mic.... and the singer can play with the distance according to the effect.

Up close will give you the proximity effect, boosting the low end, or "balls".

Wearing headphones will help the singer attain the right distance, although some must be told to get a little closer, or back away a little.
