Portastudio 488MK II warbles!

I was recording recently on this machine and I noticed a drastic warble in playback.

I listened to songs recorded before this problem ever happened and they didn't seem to warble. So it seems the problem is happening in the actual recording process.

I figure this is a common problem. I'm wondering if I can just order a part and fix it myself. Anyone know what's going on?

Change the capstan and control belts. Order these from TASCAM Parts (323) 727-4840. Also clean the rubber pinch roller with this: Caig CaiKleen RBR

You should eventually replace the pinch roller however. Also, don't forget to clean the entire tape path properly.

The warble and other sound probs are usually caused by a hard, glossy pinch roller and a bad capstan belt.
