Well here's the popsicle stick, cassette Portastudio four track, one mike, all acoustic, individually mastered cassette ep I was working on, now complete and released on hand_art_sound. It's called 'Standing Next To Jesus', not because I'm particularly born again but because the second track, with guitar and tambourine, came out sounding like a married Salvation Army couple playing a few tunes back at home after a citadel service. I thought it was a nice title for the whole thing.
So, four original sub two minute tunes recorded on the most basic cassette Portastudio you can get and a single Beyer M58 omni reporters' mike. All acoustic instruments, all miked - no plug in. No eq on this portastudio, just level control and panning. Whatever tone came off the microphone was all there was to work with.
Given it's all acoustic nature and the way it has been recorded, it is nothing like anything done with the Lonely Few.
Each track was individually mixed to its final cassette one at a time so they are all first generation. They are not copies and as a result no two are exactly the same. Here's how they've been packaged in their oiled, pyrographed, caligraphed, popsicle stick boxes with a little story book...
Track 1 Side 1; Eighteen Wheels - vocals, banjo, acoustic bass, congas and tambourine. Revenge and jail.
Track 2 Side 1; Standing Next to Jesus - vocals and bv's, guitar, hand claps and tambourine. Mr & Mrs Salvo back at home.
Track 3 Side 2; Lesson Learned - vocals, mandolin, acoustic bass & drums. Going back to live in the country if you please. First attempt at mando playing.
Track 4 Side 2; Banjourno - banjo, mandolin, guitar and acoustic bass. First tune I ever composed on a banjo. Must be twenty years ago. Bluegrass, nowhere near as good as the Dillards but inspired by them.
And here's what one sounds like - Track 1, Eighteen Wheels, a song about the interaction between the economy, big business, interstate trucking, the law, justice and the cost of citizens' lives. It's also about revenge - and eye for an eye - when all else has gone.

Only eight made - I can't eat that many popsicles in one sitting. Dunno why I bother really. But it was fun.
