You may be clipping your signal when record your music to the computer. Ease off on your levels.

this is happening when copying an existing
audio cd. doesnt seem to happen with data
cd,s. any more thoughts???

Wait a second, Dave5X. How would you hear such "pops" on a data CD?
What SW are you using?

I am having the same problem when I burn CD's. When I play a CD in either drive, my SCSI or IDE, there is no track noise or problems, but when I burn to CD or extract to the hard drive, I get an annoying popping sound throughout the track. It seems to happen only when I extract to the hard drive but I have had some problems backing up entire CD's. I'm using Toast 3.5 on a Mac. I going to try switching software but wanted to see if you're friend is using the same software. This problem is driving me CRAZY!

Dave and Empire...

Check to see the format that the audio is recorded in. I have a Yamaha burner and it seems that the clicks and pops come from trying to copy a .wav file. I always create a disk image first using digital audio extraction. If I try to copy a cd that is in .wav - I have the same problem with quality. Also, is the source CD scratched - this could cause your problem as well.

I'm having the same popping appear on my audio cd's also. I'm using a smart and friendly drive with Nero software.
