pops and clicks, driver? settings? OS?

Hi, I posted in Cakewalk forum as well, but realize that I may just be set up crappy or something. I get all kinds of static-y sound recording even a single guitar track. it hasn't always done this.

1.6 G P4
768M RAM
MOTU 24i (324)
Sonar XL 2.0

I've never reinstalled XP, have set buffers real high in MOTU's console, have done most of the musicxp tweaks, am using an internal 40G hard drive, and don't know where I should start trying to correct this. Would changing to MME drivers be a way of ruling out driver issues, or are there any other things I could try to focus in on the issue?

The Motu should instruct you to use a specific driver. Generally ASIO is the better.
You may want to look for a conflict or sharing of the PCI slot for your audio interface card.
