POPPIN NOISE WHEN I RECORD. help

well imma try to be brief. I bought a quick setup at my local Guitar Center to get back into recording vocals and such. my setup is a presonus audiobox pre with 48v power. and my mic is a sterling audio st51. very basic setup. well im thinking the problem is my laptop. my question is. WILL a cheap laptop with a weak processor cause static or popping noise?
 
Well sure it's possible, but you're not givin us much to go on here, so it's hard to try and help.
 
Yes. Try turning up the buffer. It will increase latency but will also increase stability.
 
ok thanks. i upgraded my computer to a dual core and balanced the latency. works damn good!!!!
