Can anyone help I have just bought mixcraft 4 and everything is fine but I am trying to use a mic to record guitar of my orange stack and also for vocals but when I arm the track the signal is really poor I have turned up all the line in volumes in my audigy 4000 sound card mixer and my windows xp but its still next to useless I have tried 3 different mic's a PZM and 2 shures that I know are ok do I need some sort of pre-amp??: would appreciate someones advice. Cheers. Pooch.

Mixcraft 4 is software right ?? what type of interface do you have ?? All Microphones need a Mic preamp or a interface with preamps in it or a mixer with preamps , basicly any instrument or mic needs a preamp of some sort ....

Interface

Thanks Minion I have just bought a Creative labs Audigy ZS Platinum Pro sound card with external io box off E-Bay which will hopefully do it ???. as I was trying to plug straight into the input of the supplied soundcard on my computer which is only basic. Pooch.

Actually an audigy card is crap for audio recording ... For a microphone you need real XLR Microphone inputs and the audigy doesn"t have them .... for the Price of the audigy card you could have bought an actually studio recording card that will let you do real multitrack recording , the audigy card is mainly for Gameing and listening to music or watching DVD"s , not audio recording ......

You could get a cheap mic preamp or cheap mixer with mic preamps and use that to plug your mics into and record with the audigy"s line inputs but the quality won"t be very good but OK for recording ideas ....

Cheers
